Where Real Estate Gets Its Dirt

UtahRealEstate.com seeks new CEO.

AK-Anne-Klein-Christa-Red-PumpBack when I wrote that Rebecca Jensen had taken the CEO position at MRED, LLC. I failed to mention that they had already announced an interim President and CEO, Joseph Szurgyi. Joseph has been with UtahRealEstate.com since 2007 and most recently served as their Director of Operations.

But the search for a replacement CEO is underway.

Rebecca steps in to a very different gig at MRED. At UtahRealEstate.com she basically ran a software company (due to their proprietery MLS system). At MRED they have a MLS vendor, dynaconnections. Since dynaconections is a relatively smaller player I think it will be a great match for Rebecca. They always rank very high on customer satisfaction surveys.

It got me thinking if UtahRealEstate.com will stay on the path with hosting their own “home-grown” MLS system. Then, this morning, I received the final job description from UtahRealEstate.com for the search of a new CEO, and it states,

“UtahRealEstate.com considers itself a technology company and provides MLS services; and it is not mandatory that the CEO be a programmer or have extensive programming experience.”

So that seems to confirm that they do want to stay independent of an MLS vendor. Certainly their are great examples of this happening successfully out there, TheMLS/CLAW, RMLS, MLSPIN and IRES, come to mind.

The bigger takeaway for me is that this is not just another MLS Exec gig. And whomever takes over Rebecca’s position has some tough Anne Klein’s to fill.

Phil Tedesco takes top spot at Rhode Island Association of REALTORS

CEO Tedesco to lead Rhode Island state association

““It is with deep regret and mixed emotions that we accept Phil’s resignation. Since becoming our CEO, he has been instrumental in putting our association in solid administrative, financial and operational position. We wish him well in his new position,” said 2014 TAR President Steven Redmond.
The Rhode Island Association of REALTORS® is one of the largest professional organizations in the state. It has some 4,000 members in 600 offices who collectively closed 14,000 homes worth about $4.3 billion in sales last year. TAR has about 4,700 members who sold about 13,950 homes in 2013 for a total sales volume of $2.7 billion.

Sounds like a great gig for Phil. And still they say climate change isn’t real.

Rumor Alert: Brian de Schepper set to join Zillow

im backWell, that didn’t take long.

Word on the street is former Tarasoft and Corelogic industry vet Brian de Schepper is set to join Zillow’s Industry Relations team. Brian had just left Corelogic back in June. No word on start date.

Ben Graboske leaves the Matrix and joins Black Knight as CTO

Ben Graboske has left CoreLogic and now at Black Knight as their CTO. Ben had previously been CTO of MOVE, Inc. , and First American RES. Besides having great taste is software Ben is well liked in the industry. So I’ll spare him all the Monty Python jokes.

Russ Bergeron joins Real Estate Digital!

Russ BergeronThat didn’t take long! Seems just like yesterday when Russ announced he as leaving his position of CEO of MRED, LLC. Flash forward to today and I just spoke with Russ this morning, calling from Aliso Viejo, and he shared with me he joined Real Estate Digital and VP of their data licensing group.

He will head a relatively new group that includes; Jay Huffman (also a former CEO of MRED,LLC/MLSNI), Lisa Powell – recently of TheMLS/CLAW and Paul Dixon, – of Homes.com. Its a sort of homecoming for Russ. Many of RED’s employees have history back in the OCMLS and SoCalMLS days here in Orange County. When I spoke to Russ he was excited about being back in Orange County, and about joining RED because they have always been very “industry friendly and focused” and a great group of people. I couldn’t agree more.

Its a great fit for both Russ and RED. Currently RED manages over 1200 data feeds. That’s a helluva a lot of data to manage and track. This gives RED, and its new owner Nationstar, an individual that understands the importance and nuances of MLS data and, just as important, the industry’s trust. Congrats!

Mike Audet joins Real Estate Webmasters (REW)

Screen Shot 2012-11-10 at 10.52.37 AMWAV Group founding partner Mike Audet joins company

Paul Hagey for Inman News:

“Audet says he’s excited to work in the broker-agent technology space because it’s still so wide open.

The MLS tech space is more mature, Audet said, but the broker and agent arena has shades of Wild West-like opportunity.

“There’s a huge amount of innovation in the space,” Audet said. He clicked off a number of niches: lead generation, transaction management, Web services, lead management.

Audet says he wants to help REW become a leader in end-to-end tech tools for brokers and agents.

Audet’s fellow WAV Group founding partner Victor Lund says he’s excited for Audet and expects WAV Group to keep on chugging without missing a beat as each partner had a hand in all aspects of the business. WAV Group will continue on led by Wilson and himself and two assistants, he said.”

Won’t be missing a beat. That’s good to hear.
