Where Real Estate Gets Its Dirt

Is Rap back?

I’m hearing and reading, Yes! According to social accounts Rapattoni is beginning the process of getting their customers back online. They still have a few caveats to work out, and I’m not sure if this is the same for all accounts. But it appears they have data from August 5th and working on getting photos loaded back up as fast as they can.

It was good to see a lot in the industry stepping up to help during this crisis. Zenlist, Zillow and even CRMLS and Northstar MLS got in the mix.

Proptech Buzz

I was catching up with Cameron Paine the other day he’s currently doing some consulting, and he told me about a new company he is advising called Proptech Buzz. The site launched only a couple weeks ago and is a free way for prop tech companies to launch their products and expose them to wider global audience. It’s social platform as well, so you can interact with real founders on the platform. Founded by Ravi Kumar, the process is pretty simple and according to Cameron it doesn’t need to be a new product.

Step 1 is you launch your product. You can include copy, screenshoots and video.
Step 2 you let as many people know about your product
Step 3 people can upvote your product and the highest voted products will see increased exposure

They have promoted over 100 products, have over 1000+ I’m told, and a few prominent VCs. Plus, there are other services than can be provided such as providing/connecting off-shore tech talent. If you looking for a free way to gain exposure for your product give them a try. I’m sure Cameron would also answer any questions you might have.

Tom Hurdelbrink, president and CEO of NWMLS, to retire at end of 2023. Justin Haag named successor

NORTHWEST MULTIPLE LISTING SERVICE PRESIDENT & CEO ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

“The opportunity to be the president and CEO of NWMLS is the highlight of my professional career,” Hurdelbrink said. “We have seen quite a lot of industry changes in the past 15 years, and the organization has come through it all stronger and even more committed to be a leading resource for our members. It has been my honor to work with outstanding staff, board members and member firms to elevate the profession and ultimately better serve consumers.”

-NWMLS

An amazing 15 years at the helm. NWMLS has been ahead of many of the changes going on in the industry and that’s no coincidence. Tom has never been one to grab the spotlight but always working on behalf of his members and the industry at large. His humble leadership will be missed. Congrats Tom, and happy trails.

CRMLS offering help to California MLS organizations hit by MLS outages

The outages effecting many MLS providers around the country could happen to any company. These types of situations are rampant for many industries. So it’s good to see many in the MLS community offering to help. CRMLS is is offering free access to the CRMLS Matrix platform to all California real estate professionals who use MLS systems hit by the outages until the issues are resolved.

Here is a link to the Matrix Resource Center for Rapattoni Users. Users will need to fill out the “CRMLS Temporary Access Form” found in the resource center and send it to CRMLS-cares@crmls.org

CRMLS has also issued this statement:

“We want to assure everyone that this is an exceptional circumstance, and CRMLS will not solicit membership to anyone outside of our current CRMLS participants, leverage any of the listing data provided by your members, nor enroll them for further, unrelated communications. We are hoping this will simply be a stopgap for an unprecedented event to keep California real estate going strong.”

-CRMLS

I’ve also attached a CRMLS coverage map for those interested.

Let’s all hope this crisis ends soon.

MRED adds Paragon Connect

MRED adds Black Knight’s Paragon Connect as MLS platform; expands suite of options for brokers

“MRED’s nearly 50,000 subscribers can anticipate gaining access to Paragon Connect in early 2024. The front end will be offered in addition to connectMLS.

“As the MRED marketplace expands, we want to provide additional choices to our subscribers,” said MRED President and CEO Rebecca Jensen. “Each of the brokerages we serve is unique. Providing multiple ways to access and enter data allows them the ability to better customize their MLS experience.”

MRED offers over two dozen products and services to brokers located in Illinois and surrounding states. MRED chose Paragon Connect due to feedback from our marketplace.”

Big win for Black Knight. And turning the tables a bit by putting some pressure on dynaConnections.

I was intrigued by Black Knight’s press release titled, MIDWEST REAL ESTATE DATA (MRED) SELECTS PARAGON CONNECT MLS FROM BLACK KNIGHT AS A PLATFORM OF CHOICE.

“Platform of choice”? What’s “Platform of choice”? I really hadn’t heard that term before, and it certainly isn’t on my “Speaking MLS” post but I’m going to add it, here why.

In the parlance of MLS Vendors like Black Knight, “System of Choice” really only meant “search of choice”. The big difference is that with “Platform of Choice” the alternative MLS system (in this case Paragon Connect) also has its own add/edit functionality. Which for an alternative MLS system is great because otherwise agent/members could only enter listings in to the primary/incumbent MLS system. By also allowing add/edit in the alternative MLS system this essentially levels the playing field so that agent members can also input listings in the new MLS system.

Obviously one reason (biggest reason?) MRED is adding Paragon Connect is to make it easier for neighboring MLS organizations to join MRED without the burden of learning a new MLS system. I don’t believe we have seen a situation where an alternative MLS system comes in and then over time takes over as the primary MLS system in regard to usage. I also haven’t seen an MLS organization shut down alternative MLS Systems once they have merged with another MLS/Assn. but I think this would be easier to do.

Paragon Connect has been getting some good reviews, but it’s going to take more than a new UI/UX differentiation to lure existing MRED users to their platform. I have some ideas. But that’s for another post.
