Industry Relations Podcast: Live from Vegas: The MLS Tech Forum

Buyers paying their own commission – is this a catastrophe or an opportunity? Do buyers know how their agents get paid? How much money is actually going where it’s supposed to go when it comes to buying real estate?

Industry insiders Rob Hahn and Greg Robertson share their insights on MLS and the future of the real estate market. On stage and in front of a live audience at the MLS Tech Forum in Las Vegas, this is a special presentation from the industry’s most influential podcast.

Special shout out to Stephanie Hill of the Greater Las Vegas Assn. of REALTORS and MLS Board Chairman, Rich Robledo for making this happen.

Industry Relations Podcast: Are Pocket Listings Dead?

What does the future of pocket listings look like? Alive and well, or well…dead? What has more of an impact on pocket listings: the MLS or the internet? In this episode of Industry Relations, Rob and Greg discuss Bright MLS’ recent study and try to predict the future of pocket listings, how to reach the “right buyer,” and whether or not marketing to a more exclusive clientele is really worth it in the end. Could this be the death knell of pocket listings, or is this just another example of the market being the market?

NorthstarMLS announces new CEO, Tim Dain

Tim Dain Named CEO of NorthstarMLS

“It is a tremendous honor for me to be chosen to succeed John and lead an organization that I hold in such high regard,” said Dain. “I’m looking forward to stepping into an organization that has established a national reputation for commitment to leadership, quality and customer service. In this era of MLS cooperation and evolution, it is my goal to continue the progress made by John and the NorthstarMLS leadership team toward a more efficient Midwest marketplace.”

Tim has some big shoes to fill. Doesn’t seem real that John is retiring, I’m sure I’ll have more to write about him in a later post.

It’s been quite a journey for Tim. He has definitely “seen it all” from broker to MLS, to vendor, and back again. Tim likes to mix it up so looking forward to this next chapter. Congrats to Tim and NorthstarMLS!

Adrese Roundtree joins Zillow

Word about this has been out there for a couple of weeks but Adrese made it official on his LinkedIn page. I was a bit surprised about the move, but you can’t fault Zillow for having an eye for talent.

I first met Adrese some 25 years ago, he had made the move from PRC/Interealty to OCMLS, which became SoCalMLS then CRMLS. You can’t be any more OG than belonging to the PRC mafia.

I also hear there has been a significant reorg in the agent product and industry relations team at Zillow. Along with these new strategic changes, I think we will see more new faces and some old ones departing. Developing…

Welcome to the vendor side Adrese!

RentSpree raises $17M in Series B round

Security deposit: $17M to bolster RentSpree’s leasing solutions

“Several funds contributed to the fast-growing technology company, but Green Visor Capital took the lead position.

Others adding to the round include Rally Ventures, the California Association of Realtors® (C.A.R.), Venture MLS, ECG-Research, KEC Ventures and Gaingels, with participation from existing investors 645 Ventures and Vesta Ventures, the release stated.

Congrats to Michael and his team. Pretty tough environment and they made it happen. They also just announced a deal with the Miami Association of REALTORS.

Industry Relations Podcast: Who is the next Gary Keller

Will the next Gary Keller please stand up?! Rob and Greg discuss who has the potential to be the next Gary Keller? What does it take to establish yourself as a powerhouse in real estate? What qualities does Gary Keller have that upcoming leaders of the industry are lacking?

From narrowing down the next real estate superstar to discussing Compass’ implosion to examining the rise in inflation and profits compared to the stagnation of income, Rob and Greg get heated on the topic of: “Why should a company pay its employees more if they’re not being more productive?”

New Event: Join us in Orange County on September 27th

I’m kinda bummed that iOi Summit and CMLS are booked for the same week. Just another scheduling victim of the pandemic. CMLS runs from September 28 to September 30 and I’m way excited about going to Indianapolis, for what feels like a back-to-normal CMLS.

That being said Drew Meyers of Geek Estate reached out to me and asked if I wanted to co-host a pre-party for iOi Summit in Orange County. Drew does these “Sorries” as part of his GEM group. I had a bunch of fun with my Orange County Prop Tech Summit so I immediately said “Yes”!

Anyway, we will be holding it at Dan and my garage/office/maker space. See the link below if you are interested in attending.

Link for more details – > GEM Soiree – OC Edition

I just hope I don’t miss my flight to Indy the next morning!

P.S. For those of you coming to iOi Summit and not familiar with the area, the location of this event (Costa Mesa, CA – Orange County) is at least 45 min to an hour away (depending on traffic) from the iOi Summit event hotel (JW Marriott Los Angeles), so plan accordingly. If you are flying into the John Wayne airport (SNA) the event is only about 10 mins away.
